The Island of Sri Lanka lies in the Indian Ocean, almost rowboat distance from the southeast tip of India and a little southwest of the Bay of Bengal. It was known as Ceylon until 1972, which was famous for its tea.

The tropical Island nation of Sri Lanka is one of its kind where nature’s beauty remains abundant and unspoilt. Within a mere area of approx. 65500 kms, it has a total of 8 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, 1330 kms of coastline, 15 national parks showcasing abundance of wildlife, nearly 5 Lakh acres of lush green tea estates, approx. 250 acres of botanical gardens, 350 waterfalls, more than 25 thousand water bodies to a culture that extends back to over 3000 years. It has also been the centre of the Buddhist religion and culture from ancient times and is one of the few remaining abodes of Buddhism in South Asia.

Sri Lanka is among the few places in the world that can offer the traveler such a remarkable combination of stunning landscapes, pristine beaches, captivating cultural heritage, hill stations, wildlife, and unique experiences within such a compact location.

The country’s 8 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in this tiny island namely the 1) Sacred city of Kandy, 2) Ancient city of Sigiriya, 3) Sacred city of Anuradhapura, 4) Ancient city of Polonnaruwa, 5) Dambulla Cave Temple, 6) Sinharaja Forest Reserve, 7) Central Highlands include Hortain Plains National Park, Knuckles Conservation Forest and Peak Wilderness Protected Area and 8) the fortified town of Galle.

The primary occupants are the Sinhalese community that forms its majority of the population, and they are famous for the production and export of tea, coffee, coconuts, rubber, and cinnamon which is native to the country.
