The first Palace on Wheels journey began its inaugural run-on 26 January 1982 and has been a popular way of touring Rajasthan ever since. Within a few years the Palace on Wheels was rated as one of the ten best luxurious train journeys in the world.

The 14 air-conditioned coaches are named after former Rajput states matching the aesthetics and interiors of the royal past. Each saloon has a mini pantry to ensure availability of hot and cold beverages, and refreshments. The modern conveniences have been thoughtfully provided, sofas to sink into, strategically placed lights to read by, wonderfully appointed beds with comfortable furnishings, inbuilt wardrobes and huge glass windows to watch the countryside roll past.

A Leisurely Sojourn by Train: There is something so romantic about a train journey that even the most intrepid traveller finds himself getting carried away by the sense of adventure that accompanies most train journeys. There are many wonderful long train journeys, of course, all of them touched with a mystique of romance and excitement, but a journey par excellence is a trip on board the Palace on Wheels.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 (Wednesday) : Delhi - The Capital City

Highlights: Report at station - Traditional welcome - Tour begins

Report at the Safdarjung Railway station, Delhi before 16:00. The check-in process starts immediately after the traditional welcome ceremony as per Indian traditions with Garlanding, Tikka and Turban.

The crew / attendant of the Palace on Wheels Train will guide you to your respective cabins . They will serve you the welcome drink and provide a brief detailing about the facilities and amenities inside the train. The Train will start from the Delhi station towards Jaipur by 18:30.

Dinner will be served inside the train restaurants named “The Maharajah” and “The Maharani”. Overnight stay inside the train.

Day 2 (Thursday) : Jaipur - The Pink City

Highlights: Amber fort - Elephant ride - Local markets - Sightseeing tour.

The train reaches Jaipur railway station in the morning. At 7:00 breakfast will be served in the train. By 8:00, vehicle will be ready for the excursion. Once you get down from the train, you will receive a traditional Rajasthani royal welcome with Garlands, Kali Ghodi Dance and others.

Before lunch, you will be taken to all the eminent attractions of the land like Albert Hall Museum, City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal, Amber Fort and others. Lunch will be served at 13:30 in 1135 AD restaurant inside Amber Fort.



After lunch, the exploration of Amber Fort continues with the elephant ride. By evening 17:00, you will be taken to shopping at the local markets of Jaipur which is popular for its jewellery, handicrafts and trinkets. Get back to the train by 19:00. Dinner will be serve at 19:30 in the train. By 20:00, the train will start its journey towards Sawai Madhopur. Overnight stay in the train.

Day 3 (Friday) : Sawai Madhopur - Chittorgarh

Highlights: Chittorgarh Fort - Ranthambore National Park Safari - Chittorgarh light & Sound Show The train reaches Sawai Madhopur in the morning. The early morning jeep safari is the best part of Ranthambore National Park. Thus, the day will be start quite early on Friday. The excursion will be start at 6:00 in the morning (before breakfast). After reaching Ranthambore, your vehicle will be waiting for safari to experience the explosive tiger and other flora and fauna. After safari, you will be taken back to the train and immediately served breakfast at 10:00 in the morning. As you dine, the train will start at 10:20 towards the next destination, Chittorgarh. Lunch will be served during the journey. The train will reach at Chittorgarh by 15:00. After a brief rest, sightseeing will start at 16:00 and you will explore the beautiful Chittorgarh Fort which still resonate the stories of Rajputana bravery. After exploring the Chittorgarh Fort, you will taken to a restaurant inside the fort for high tea and other refreshements. The sound and light program at the fort will start at 18:00. You will be taken back to the train by 20:00 for a delicious dinner. Dinner will start immediately. The train stays at the railway station overnight. Overnight stay in the train.

Day 4 (Saturday) : Udaipur - The City of Lakes

Highlights: City attractions - Lunch at Heritage Hotel - Boat ride at Lake Pichola

The train will start the onwards journey from Chittorgarh in the morning and reaches Udaipur by 7:00 in the morning. Breakfast will be served at 7:30. After a brief rest, the sightseeing excursion of Udaipur will be start at 9:00 in the morning. Before lunch, you will be taken to Saheliyon ki Bari, City Palace, Crystal Gallery and shopping until it is time for lunch.

Around 13:00, you will be taken for delicious lunch by the boat ride on Lake Pichola to reach Jag Mandir Palace, followed by hi tea on board The palace on wheels.



Get back to the train by 15:30. Evening tea is served immediately. After a brief rest, the train will start its journey towards Jaisalmer at 16:00. Overnight stay in the train and delicious dinner will be served on board.

Day 5 (Sunday) : Jaisalmer - The Golden City

Highlights: Sightseeing tour - Camel safari at Sam Sand Dunes - Cultural show

The train will reach Jaisalmer by 9:00 in the morning. Breakfast will be available at 7:30. Thus, you can dine and take a brief rest before starting sightseeing at 9:30. Before lunch, you would cover Gadisar Lake, Nathmal ji ki Haveli, Patwon ki Haveli, Jaisalmer Fort and Heritage City Walk.

You will be taken back to the train for lunch. After lunch and brief rest, you will be taken to enjoy camel safari at Sam sand dunes at 16:00.



After safari, you will be served tea before starting back to the train. You will reach train by 19:00. After a little refreshment, you will be taken to Gorbandh Palace for dinner with live cultural program. Get back to the train for overnight stay by almost midnight. Train will start the onwards journey to Jodhpur immediately.

Day 6 (Monday) : Jodhpur - The Blue City

Highlights: Sightseeing tour - Lunch at luxurious hotel - This full day at leisure on own.

The Train will reach Jodhpur railway station in the morning and breakfast will be served as usual at 7:30. By 9:00, the coaches and cars will be ready for excursion. Before lunch, you will be taken to explore the famous attractions of Jodhpur covering Mehrangarh Fort, Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jaswant Thada and if time permits, shopping at the local shops.

By 13:30, lunch will be served at luxurious Ajit Bhawan Palace. You will be taken back to the train by 16:00.



The rest of the day is free for you to enjoy the amenities and facilities inside the train. The train will start its onward journey towards Bharatpur by 16:30. Dinner will be served on board at 19:30. Overnight stay in the train.

Day 7 (Tuesday) : Bharatpur - Agra

Highlights: Safari to Keoladeo National Park - Sightseeing tour - Taj Mahal - Local market tour.

The train will reach Bharatpur early in the morning. You will be taken on an early excursion to Keoladeo National Park also known as “Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary” for a rickshaw safari (before breakfast) by 6:30. It is a heaven for bird watchers and see the 380 resident and migrant species of birds.

After safari, you will be taken back to the train by 8:45 AM and breakfast will be served shortly. By 9 AM, as you dine, the train will start its journey towards the last attraction of the itinerary, Agra. The train reaches the marble paradise by 11:00 AM and you will be taken on an excursion immediately from Agra Cantt railway station.



Before lunch, you will process to Agra fort for exploration. Lunch will be served at Deluxe hotel at 13:30. By 15:00, you will be taken to One of the Seven wonders of the world - Taj Mahal for exploration and sightseeing. The rest of the day until 18:00 is dedicated to shopping. After shopping, get back to the train. Dinner will be served at 19:30, while the train stays put at Agra. The train starts its final journey of the itinerary towards Delhi at 20:45. Rest of the day is free for tourists to explore the train.

Day 8 (Wednesday) : Delhi

Highlights: Tour ends here.

The train reaches Delhi Safdarjung railway station by 2:30. The breakfast will be served by 6:00 in the morning and checkout formalities starts by 7:30.



Once the formalities are completed, you will be allowed to de-board the train in their own pace and carry on with their vacation, if desired.

Information:

  • GST as applicable shall be charged extra.
  • Tariff for the children aging up to 5 years will be charged @ 15%.
  • Tariff for the children aging 5 years and above but less than 12 years shall be charged @75%.
  • One Cabin Occupancy of 2 paxs only.
  • The Tariff in Indian currency is fixed for the guests having valid Indian Nationality proof i.e., Valid Indian passport & OCI card holders (valid proof for the same need to be submitted at the time of booking in case of any variance in the documents than Dollar rate would be applicable).
  • Operator, under information to RTDC reserves the right to revise the tariff at any time without any prior intimation.
  • This policy and tariff shall be affected from the date of issuing of this order for the new Reservation Booking.

Terms & Conditions

1- Booking & Payment Procedure:

  • 25% of the ticket value against advance at the time of booking along with the list of guests/Pax and their passport scanned soft copies.
  • Balance payment 60 days prior to the departure date.
  • If the balance payment is not made at least 60 days prior to the departure date, a penalty of 12% interest will be applied.
  • In case of bookings made within 60 days prior to departure date then 100% payment shall be deposited to the authorised O&M operator along with the booking details.
  • The rate of exchange prevailing on the date of transaction would be applicable as per the RBI.
  • GST as applicable shall be charged extra.
  • Tariff for the children aging up to 5 years will be charged @15%.
  • Tariff for the children aging above 5 years but less than 12 years shall charge @75%.
  • One cabin has occupancy of 2 Pax only.
  • The Tariff in Indian currency is fixed for the guests having valid Indian Nationality proof i.e., Valid Indian passport & OCI card holders (valid proof for the same need to be submitted at the time of booking in case of any variance in the documents than Dollar rate would be applicable).

2- Cancellation Rules for Deduction of amount:

  • 10% of ticket value shall be deducted on cancellation between 120 to 90 days before the travel date.
  • 25% of ticket value shall be deducted on cancellation between 89 to 60 days before the travel date.
  • 50% of the ticket value shall be deducted on cancellation around 59 to 30days before the travel date.
  • No refund shall be admissible in case the booking is cancelled within 29 days before the departure date.
  • On cancellation of booking Suo-moto by Operator 100% of the fund deposited (without any kind of charges/claims) will be refunded.
  • However, Operator will not be liable for any refund or compensation for any services such as pre/post accommodation, airline tickets, and excursions etc. that have been booked by the guest and/or their Travel Agent.
  • Operator, under information to RTDC reserves the right to cancel the tour/trips at any given point of time to whatsoever reasons, 100% of received amount will be refunded in such cases.
  • Operator will review and apprise the agents of such instances 60days prior to departure in case of low occupancy.
  • Operator has the right to decide the same between 45days to 30days of the departure and officially inform the agents or individuals of such bookings.
  • The minimum occupancy defined is of 50% to run the operations, that is 17cabins.

3- Booking by GSAs/Travel Agents & Commission Structure:

  • For GSAs – In order to motivate the GSA/Travel Agents to provide business on POW performance-based incentive will be available on achieving benchmark booking of 100 seats in a season can be dealt on case-to-case basis. These incentives shall be applicable only upon receipt of 100% payment for the booking ticket amount received by Operator. A separate MOU to be signed between with Operator as per their T&C.
  • For Non – GSAs/Travel Agents 12% commission (inclusive of all statutory taxes & other dues) only upon receipt of 100% payment for the booking ticket amount received by Operator.
  • Any Travel Agents giving bookings of more than 50 Pax in a season for POW shall be entitled to become a GSA subject to fulfilments of other criterion.
  • All other statutory compliance such as payment of Service Tax, TDS or any applicable liability etc. has to be complied/cleared by the GSA/Agents.
  • The 70% of total seats will be available for bulk booking for GSAs/Travel Agents. Rest 30% seats shall be reserved for individual direct online booking. In case of full booking of reserved seats for a category then seat shall be opened for other rest categories or vice– versa in a tour.
  • Empanelment of GSAs with operator is mandatory.

4- Direct Individual/Online Booking and discount structure:

  • Direct Individual/Online booking on RTDC Operator website is also available for POW. Payment for such bookings shall be charged as per policy.
  • A special offer shall be admissible to each guest on direct individual/online booking. Vouchers of 20$ per day per pax will be provided, which are non-transferable and limited to daily utilization in same tour/trip.
  • No commission to any agent shall be allowed for such bookings.
  • In order to implement a robust and transparent operator booking system effort would be done to book and cancel all tickets online.
  • In case of charter booking direct/individual online booking shall not apply.

5- Part Journey:

  • For the already existing such booking transferred through RTDC will be accommodated by the operator but for the new booking, part bookings will be entertained only on the discretion of the operator based on the occupancy.
  • The new booking will be made only for the full itinerary i.e., 7 nights. In case, any guest leaves en route the start of trip/journey no amount will be refunded or claimed by them in any form as per the policy.

6- Procedure for confirmed bookings:

  • In case of all confirmed booking, it shall be confirmed only on deposition of 100% ticket value along with the Passenger List/Passport Scan copy 60 days prior to the travel date. In case, Passenger List/Passport Scan copy 45 days prior to the travel date are not received, booking shall be treated as cancelled and no refund will be admissible.
  • Once the names of the guests have been received, no substitution shall be permitted. The previous name, if changed/removed shall be treated as cancelled booking. The new name(s) will be treated as fresh booking and will be confirmed keeping in view the availability. 6.3. In case of charter booking offer received for a tour, if less than 20 seats/pax is booked in this tour than Operator can offer an option to GSA/Travel Agents/Individual Traveler. In such case GSA/Travel Agents/individual Traveler shall be provide an option for full refund or amendment/shifting of seats free of cost available in next tours.

7- No Show/En Route Termination of Tour:

  • No Show: In case of no show/non-arrival of the guest, no refund or adjustment future travel will be possible. The whole amount shall be treated as forfeited. However, under the circumstances like Natural Disaster / Natural Calamity/National Security Events etc. the matter will be favorably considered by the Authorized Operator to the extent of Tourist/Passengers satisfaction as well as their comfort for better luxury travel experience and related promotions.
  • EN Route termination of tour: In Case termination of tour by the guest, for any reasons, no refund or adjustment for future travel will be admissible. The amount for unused portion of the tour shall be treated as forfeited.

8- For Charter Booking:

  • Anyone can book exclusive charter minimum 50 pax/travelers including Presidential & Super Deluxe Cabins for Palace on Wheels.
  • No charter bookings will be accepted for trips that fall within the Christmas and New Year.
  • The charter shall be booked on 7 nights’ itinerary, however, in the interest of business it can book charter for lesser number of nights keeping in view the booking potential.
  • The charter can be booked on the existing POW tour itinerary. However, diversion (outside the Rajasthan state) in the approved itinerary may be permissible after prior approval of RTDC/Indian Railways for which charted value and cost will be disclosed on case to case basis.
  • However, no Free of Cost (FOC) will be admissible on above charter.

9- Payment Policy for Charter:

  • 10% amount of the charter cost at the time of booking confirmation.
  • 15% amount of the charter cost at 120 days prior to departure.
  • 25% amount of the charter cost at 90 days prior to departure.
  • Balance payment 60 days prior to Departure date.
  • In case of further delay in payment will lead to penalty of 12% interest.

10- Cancellation Rates for Charter:

  • 10% amount of the charter cost 120 days or more prior to departure date.
  • 25% amount of the charter cost 119 to 90 days prior to the departure date.
  • 50% amount of the charter 89 to 60 days prior to departure date.
  • 100% amount will be charged as cancellation if the charter is cancelled 59 to 0 days prior to departure.

11- Additional Points:

  • At the time of booking purpose of the charter e.g. corporate event, special occasion should be mentioned, with the list of guests with their valid id proofs.
  • The O&M operator reserves the right to cancel or reschedule charter booking due to unforeseen circumstances beyond operators’ control as well as any guidelines received from State Government/their nominated agencies keep safety and security perspectives for all tourists/guests.
  • Any damages to the train or its facilities caused by the booking party will be the financial responsibility of the booking party.
  • For excursion sharing seat coach will be provided. Exclusive Vehicles or accompanying language Guides shall be charged extra.

12-:

  • Operator may declare Special Business Promotion scheme from time to time. Also, there may be changes route/visit plan changes as per the instructions or guidelines received from State Dept/Indian Railway/RTDC/Nominated agencies on the special event dates falling on 26th Jan, 2nd Oct etc. beyond the operator control and management.
